Danish royal to wed German businessman

Today, the Danish Royal Court announced the engagement of Princess Nathalie zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg (daughter of Princess Benedikte - sister of Queen Margarethe II - and her husband Prince Richard) to her boyfriend of the past two years, Alexander Johannsmann, a German businessman who specializes in the transport of horses for equestrian competitions around the world.

It would seem that the equestrian connection is what brought the pair together, as Princess Nathalie is an active rider, who also breeds and trains dressage horses from her palace home in Berleburg, Denmark.

The pair first stepped out as a couple in November 2009, when reporters asked the princess if an engagement was upcoming. "No...I'm not engaged. Not yet," she said at the time.

This will be Princess Nathalie's first marriage. No wedding date was announced.
